Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Denzil Thorpe, addresses a ceremony to open the Miss Lou Archives on Thursday (September 12) at the National Library of Jamaica (NLJ) East Street, downtown Kingston.The event, dubbed: 'Unlocking the Miss Lou Archives', is part of actvities to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the late cultural icon.

Louise Bennett Coverley, affectionately called ‘Miss Lou’, during a civic ceremony in Gordon Town, East Rural St Andrew on September 8, to commemorate the centenary of Miss Lou’s birth. Sharing the moment (from left) are Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange; Chairman, Fontana Pharmacy, Kevin O’Brien Chang; and Manager, Fontana Pharmacy, Nicole Watson Chang. More than 1,700 of the storyboards will be donated to schools, libraries, Ministries and Diplomatic Missions. This is being facilitated through a partnership between the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport and Fontana Pharmacy.
