Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects in the Office of the Prime Minister Hon. Daryl Vaz, has confirmed that Leighton Thomas has been relieved of his duties as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ). The termination was effective January 4, 2010 following investigations which confirmed that there were breaches of Government Rules and Regulations.
The Minister advised that Mr. Thomas was sent on leave while investigations were carried out. Receipt of the Final Audit Report from the Office of the Prime Minister’s Chief Internal Auditor; consultation with the relevant Government entities and communication with the former CEO preceded the termination of Mr Thomas’ services to the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica.
Minister Vaz advised that Ms. Wahkeen Murray, Director Legal and Regulatory Affairs in the Information and Telecommunications Department, Office of the Prime Minister, has been assigned as an Interim Manager for the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica from Monday 21st December, 2009.
