Statement on Jamaica/Haiti Relations

In the light of press reports of the purported suspension of relations with Jamaica by the interim Government of Haiti, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade wishes to state the following:
(a)we have received no notification to this effect from the interim Government in Haiti and therefore we cannot respond to the reported action in the absence of such notification;
(b) the Ministry is aware that the interim Government had recalled all its Heads of Mission overseas for consultations. In this regard, the Haitian Ambassador to Jamaica departed Kingston late last week.
Jamaica has not recognized the interim Government of Haiti as this will be the subject of deliberations by the CARICOM Heads of Government at their Inter-Sessional Meeting in St. Kitts later this month.
