More than 100 persons from vulnerable communities in Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, St. Ann, St. Mary, Westmoreland and St. James have successfully completed substance misuse treatment with support from the Citizen Security and Justice Programme (CSJP). They were assisted by counsellors, community case management officers, social workers and psychologists to overcome their substance misuse and were recently recognized at a graduation ceremony.

The Citizen Security and Justice Programme (CSJP) is providing 9 million dollars in financial support for youth engagement activities this summer. CSJP Communication and Social Marketing Coordinator, Patrice Tomlinson- Nephew says the activities include six summer camps as well as the employment of youngsters from the eight parishes served by the CSJP.

The Citizen Security and Justice Programme, CSJP’s Men with a Message recently completed a 10 week course titled Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Social Work, offered by the UWI Open Campus Social Work Training and Research Unit. Lecturer and Coordinator of the Unit, Cerita Buchanan says the course covered the general areas of social work including working with groups, individuals, communities, children and vulnerable populations as well as social justice and responding to social injustice.
