George River Bridge Officially Reopened

The people of Mavis Bank and adjoining communities and persons passing through the area are now able to access the Georges River Bridge. The bridge, located in Violet Bank, was renovated by the National Works Agency (NWA) at a cost of 21 million dollars. It’s been expanded to 36 feet and can now accommodate two large vehicles simultaneously. Prime Minister Andrew Holness has commended the NWA for the successful completion of the project, noting that the previous bridge, was an impediment for motorists.

The National Works Agency NWA has started works to fix the Bowden Hill Bridge in St. Andrew at a cost of over 30 million dollars. Earlier this year a 35 million dollar contract was awarded to fix a section of the broken Bowden Hill Roadway but following heavy rainfall in mid February the Bowden Hill Bridge was washed away. The National Works Agency NWA is currently working on its road marking project for the North Coast Highway, with 90 percent of phase one now complete. The Programme will address 37 kilometres of roadway in two Phases, with phase one spanning Runaway Bay in St. Ann from to Braco in Trelawny and phase two from Braco to Falmouth. Mosquito Cove, in Hanover is an area with quite a large section of marsh land that could possibly be home to many mosquitoes. In Mosquito Cove, the National Works Agency NWA is improving the approach roads to the mosquito Cove Bridge. Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region Janel Ricketts says the agency is in the final stages of the project.
