Executive Director, National Youth Service (NYS), Melvin Smith, addresses a Statistics Symposium hosted by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) at  the Mona Visitors’ Lodge, University of the West Indies, St. Andrew today (October 15).  Entitled: ‘Youths, ages 15 to 24 – A Situational Analysis’, the event was staged as part of activities to commemorate Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Statistics Day. The forum provided a profile of young people in the 15 to 24 age group in relation to employment, education, fertility and crime.

Ms. Miranda Townsend, who has been awarded  the Badge Of Honour For Long And Faithful Service to the Child Protection Sector, by the Government of Jamaica. She will receive her award at the National Honours and Awards ceremony, to be held at King’s House on Heroes Day, Monday, October 20.  Ms. Townsend  has been a Foster Mother for more than 45 years.
