Computer services at the Oracabessa Branch Library, St. Mary, have been restored with the presentation of two new computers to the facility by Member of Parliament for Western St. Mary, Hon. Robert Montague.
Mr. Montague, who is the Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government in the Office of the Prime Minister, made the presentation during a brief ceremony at the library on Tuesday (December 22).
The computers were needed because of the recent theft of four computers from the library, resulting in major inconvenience for students and other members of the public who rely on the computer services provided by the facility.

A resident of Oracabessa in St. Mary utilising the newly resumed computer service at the Oracabessa Branch Library, facilitated by the presentation of two new computers to the library by Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Western St. Mary, Hon. Robert Montague, on Tuesday (December 22). The computers replaced computers which were stolen from the library.

The Oracabessa Branch Library’s computer services is of particular significance, as the community is the only one in the English speaking Caribbean which provides free broadband wireless access to the internet.
In handing over the gift, Mr. Montague expressed his pleasure in being associated with the initiative, adding that they were given preference over the choice of installing a christmas tree in Oracabessa for the yuletide season.
Declaring that the internet is generally regarded as the highway to the acquisition of knowledge, Mr. Montague said the restoration of the computer service at the library will be of invaluable benefit to students and the rest of the community in their pursuit of information.
In extending gratitude to the persons and organisations that combined their efforts to make the presentation a reality, he expressed special thanks to Norman Johnson of Pam Jam Technology, for his role in the acquisition of the computers.

He urged residents of Oracabessa to ensure that the best care is taken of the computers, and noted that a number of community members have pledged to contribute to the purchasing of another two computers for the library.
Expressing thanks, Librarian at the St. Mary Parish Library, Port Maria, Lloyd Williams gave assurance that the staff of the Oracabessa Branch Library will be meticulous in ensuring that the best care and protection is given to the new computers.
