December 24, 2009The Full Story
Days after the disappearance of Jamaica Information Service (JIS) printer/pressman, Michael Roberts, members of the JIS remain vigilant in their plea for his safe return.
Mr. Roberts has been reported missing since Wednesday, December 16.
Printery Supervisor at the JIS, Mr. Colbert Simpson, who has known Michael for six years, describes him as a gentle fun-loving person.
“He is very co-operative, always willing to give a helping hand. He is very punctual, always at work pretty early and if he is not coming to work, he will let you know. I am asking anyone out there who has seen him or know his whereabouts to contact the police,” he pleaded, during an interview with the JIS News, today (December 24).
Mr. Roberts, also known as ‘Lucky’, resides at 17 Kavita Crescent in Duncan’s Pen, Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
Fellow co-worker and Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ms. Joy Clarke, explained that she thinks of Michael with a smile.
“I think of him as a happy person, a busy person. Based on my experience and what everybody has said, he is always willing and it’s unfortunate that this is the time he is missing, the time that he loves most in the year,” Ms. Clarke said, while Copy Editor, Mr. Christopher Castriota, wants closure.
“Michael is of a very calm disposition, always willing to help. For all of us, not knowing, is the most difficult part of the process. We want Michael to be returned to us safely,” he added.
In the meantime, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the JIS, Mrs. Donna-Marie Rowe, also echoed the sentiments of the staff and is appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
“Anyone who can provide any information on the whereabouts of Michael Roberts, a hardworking, dedicated, loyal and pleasant employee of the JIS, we really need to hear from you,” she urged, while pointing out that, a prayer vigil will be planned.
“We have had quite a number of talks with staff here trying to piece the puzzle together to ascertain what could have led to Michael not turning up for work since last week Wednesday and everyone here is saddened and distressed by the fact that we have an employee missing, especially at this time of the year. We also want to channel our emotions in a direction that will help us to bring about some level of comfort to all of us and so we want to plan a vigil,” Mrs. Rowe disclosed.
In addition, the CEO is cautioning one and all to be safe this holiday season.
“To all of us, remain vigilant and alert, especially at this time of the year to ensure that we look out for each other…let’s make a difference in the world around us, let whatever we do at this time of year be done with purpose and live our lives in a way that will be pleasing to the Lord,” she noted.
When last seen on December 16, Mr. Roberts was wearing a blue shirt, camouflage pants and a Santa Claus hat. Persons with information are being asked to contact the Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) at 984-9757 or telephone 119.
