The Full Story

To commemorate fire awareness week from October 23 to October 29, the Clarendon Fire Department will be conducting a series of lectures and safety checks throughout the parish.
District Officer Owen Thomas, Head of Clarendon’s Fire Prevention Unit, told JIS News that two teams of officers would be carrying out the work beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day.
“We will be carrying out these lectures and safety checks utilizing two groups of personnel with a view to increasing the level of awareness among our citizens, identifying fire hazards, as well as any potential fire risks and having these removed. We will also be distributing brochures,” he explained. Mr. Thomas said the main target groups for the week included high-risk communities, factories, processing plants, hotels, guest houses and outlets which distribute liquefied petroleum gas.
He noted that some of the communities to be visited were Cumberland, Spaldings, Sanguinette, Grantham, James Hill, Crofts Hill, Kellits, Brandon Hill, Santa Maria, May Pen, Rocky Point, Water Lane, Longwood, Kemps Hill and Mocho, adding that these visits would be spread right across the parish.
