18 Students Recognised for Academic Achievement
Senior Teacher and Civic Empowerment/Culture Agent at the St. Elizabeth-based Ballard’s Valley Primary School, Rosemarie Steele (third right), is flanked by the five BB Coke High School male students who acted swiftly in getting their injured schoolmate to a medical facility on September 28. The occasion was a recent ceremony at Ballard’s Valley Primary where the students were honoured. They are from left: Dejuan Powell, Daejuan Gordon, Leon Barnes, Garry Bartley, and Khari Green.

Fayval Williams (centre), and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Kasan Troupe, engage with head of diaspora non-profit organisation, Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB), Irwine Clare, at the handover of automated external defibrillators (AED) on October 18 at the University of Technology (UTech) in St. Andrew. The devices, donated by TJB, are used to help persons experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. They will be distributed to local secondary level institutions, and training will be facilitated in the use of the devices. TJB has been an advocate for athlete development from high school through to college and beyond, for almost 30 years. The initiative to provide defibrillators to schools is aimed at improving the safety and health of young athletes in Jamaica.
