His Worship the Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar, Councillor Bertel Moore, has said that the parish is in urgent need of two ambulances to replace out-of-service vehicles at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital and the Negril Fire Station.
The Mayor, who was addressing a meeting of the Westmoreland Parish Council yesterday (Sept. 10) at the Anglican Church Hall in the parish capital, stated that the absence of the emergency vehicles could compromise the health of citizens and visitors to the parish.
He suggested that funds could be made available from the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) to procure new ambulances for the parish, which was a key resort area.
“The Tourism Enhancement Fund has been doing a great job in beautifying the country and can now be used to respond to this emergency now facing the parish,” he said.
In the meantime, with a number of communities affected by drought, Mayor Moore said that water will have to be trucked to those areas.
He further urged citizens to keep their surroundings clean and observe proper garbage disposal habits, and to continue hurricane preparations efforts.
