Cabinet has approved the award of a contract to Arel Limited for the supply and installation of a Computed Tomography (CT) scanner at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), at a cost of some US$646,944.

This was disclosed by Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, during the weekly Jamaica House press briefing, held at the Office of the Prime Minister on December 6.

The Minister pointed out that the approval is in keeping with the endorsement of the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the National Contracts Commission.

Senator Falconer noted that there has been an increased demand for CT scanning services at the UHWI. The institution’s Radiology Department is currently the largest imaging facility in the English speaking Caribbean.
