Cabinet has given instructions to the Chief Parliamentary Counsel to begin drafting the National Insurance (Amendment) Act 2013.

The Bill will then be submitted to Cabinet for its approval for tabling in Parliament.

This was disclosed by Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, during the weekly Jamaica House press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister, on December 6.

The Minister informed that the Bill will seek to amend the National Insurance Act to increase the insurable wage contribution from $1 million to $1.5 million, and to increase the weekly contributions for domestic workers, self-employed and voluntary contributors.

It will also seek to increase the weekly rate of benefits under the National Insurance Scheme, Senator Falconer noted.
