The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has donated a Panasonic DVD player to the Fair Prospect Primary School in Portland, to boost the institution’s reading programme.
Director of Corporate Affairs at the UDC, Doreen O’Connor, who made the presentation to the school principal Julie Bailey, recently, said that the gift was in keeping with the UDC’s commitment to assist the education sector through its community outreach efforts.
The Fair Prospect Primary School’s reading programme was established in November of last year for the purpose of improving the literacy rate among students. The initiative prepares students from grades three to six, for the Grade Three and Four Literacy tests and the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT).
The DVD player is expected to complement the reading and other resource material used in the reading room.
In expressing gratitude to the UDC, Mrs. Bailey said that the donation would go a far way in making the institution’s reading programme a success.
