With several development projects now taking place simultaneously within the parish of Trelawny, the major one which is the development of the Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier, the Trelawny Parish Council, is strategically placing itself as the source for information on all the projects taking place.
An Information Centre is being established within the halls of the Parish Council, where residents can now access information on all the projects taking place within the parish. One main inter-agency committee has also been established, coordinated by the Mayor of Falmouth, Councillor Colin Gager, where matters regarding the developments are aired and discussed on a regular basis.
“We have had two meetings now; the first meeting it was a blessing, in fact, because of that first meeting we have not had any other splinter groups meeting, everybody now concentrates on this one inter-agency committee,” Mayor Gager explained about the committee which he now chairs.
He said the meetings are usually attended by heads of departments and agencies, who come prepared to divulge whatever information is being sought, and note the concerns that are aired.
The committee was established on the recommendation of Minister with responsibility for Local Government, Hon. Robert Montague, following his recent visit to the parish.
With regard to the Information Centre, Mayor Gager told JIS News that the facility is being established in the lobby of the Parish Council building, with material and information also available from his Office.
“We thought that with all the information elsewhere, the Parish Council is the place where you could just step in off the street, step straight in—-so we created that (the information centre) and have been gathering all the pamphlets and charts and everything, and you will be able to get application forms there too,” he stated.
He said that the Information Centre should be up and running in the shortest possible time.
