The Full Story

The National Works Agency (NWA)is advising motorists that the Rio Neuvo to Gayle main road, western St. Mary in the vicinity of the entrance to the community of Stewart Mountain will be closed temporarily, from 8:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 29, 2013 to 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013.

This temporary closure is to facilitate road repairs which include the pouring of concrete and the placement of reinforcing steel bars along the damaged section of roadway. These works became necessary as the roadway at this location has become highly unstable because of an elevated water-table, an underground spring and leaking Water Commission 300 mm mains located across the roadway.

The alternative routes formotorists travelling from the direction of Ocho Rios towards Gayle,is via Cascade or motorists travelling from the direction of Rio Neuvo towards Gayle may travel via Mango Valley to Union Hill, then Jessikie and then onto Gayle.

Motorists are advised to proceed with caution, obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning and directional signs while work is in progress at this location.
