Summerfield Boys’ Home Refurbished

October 19, 2009

The Full Story

Refurbishing work was undertaken at the Summerfield Boys’ Home, in Clarendon, by 19 members of the Clarification Department at the bauxite and alumina company, Jamalco, along with 47 boys of the home, on October 17.
The work included electrical installations, the erection of a concrete tank, the painting of sections of a perimeter wall and other minor repairs.
Superintendent of the Clarification Department, Mr. Maurice Robinson, told JIS News that members of his team had met with the institution to prioritise the needs and to work out a strategy to address as many as possible.
“We also replaced windows and glass blades, improved the appearance of the metal window frames, and repainted the dining area, with support from the wards,” he noted.
Expressing appreciation for the work done, Facilities Manager at the Home, Albert Bennett, said that, “Jamalco has been in partnership with us over the years, and we really appreciate the kindness.”
The Jamalco crew will be planning additional outreach work days with the boys, and the members have pledged their support as ‘Big Brothers’ and ‘Fathers’ to the wards through the ‘Jamalco In School’ programme, an initiative to provide critical institutional support to educational institutions and students.
