‘All over the country and in the Diaspora, Jamaicans continue to beam with pride at today’s outstanding display of athletic prowess by Veronica Campbell-Brown as she won the gold medal in the women’s 200M finals and successfully defended her Olympic title. The fantastic run by Kerron Stewart who took the bronze medal in the 200m finals, must be hailed as a declaration of the greatness of our athletes, and the fighting spirit of the Jamaican woman in particular.
Our athletes continue to do well, as they dominate the Beijing, Olympic Games and demonstrate the indomitable Jamaican spirit which has led them repeatedly to victory after victory. This drive to achieve is a part of all of us as Jamaicans. That drive to be ahead of the pack has impacted on our Reggae Boyz who drew one-all with Canada in their first World Cup qualifying match. What an outstanding week this has been for Jamaica.
As we savor this moment of national pride however, let us as a people internalize the determination of our athletes to do well and capitalize on their achievements, by playing our part in making Jamaica a better country.
On behalf of all Jamaicans, I congratulate our Jamaican men and women who continue to make their country proud, as we look forward to greater things in the other events in the Olympics and the future in general’.
