The Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project (SCHIP) is now 95 per cent complete.
Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the remaining segments, from Yallahs Bridge to Port Antonio and Morant Bay to Cedar Valley, will be completed by June 2025.
“This transformative project has delivered 141 kilometres (km) of reconstructed roads, 248 km of water pipelines and 140 km of fibre-optic ducts, significantly enhancing connectivity and essential utilities,” he stated.
The Prime Minister was speaking during his contribution to the 2025/26 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Thursday (March 20).
Meanwhile, Dr. Holness said the commencement of the $45 billion Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) Project marks another pivotal achievement for the nation’s roads and water supply infrastructure.
“For the first time, all constituencies had an opportunity to provide input. As I had committed, construction work began before the end of 2024 with the rehabilitation of Everest Drive in Harbour View,” he stated.
The Prime Minister informed that, since then, work orders have been issued covering 126 roads across 63 constituencies.
“Within the next six weeks, we have programmed for construction to begin on another 126 roads, representing the largest single event of road construction in the history of independent Jamaica.
That is 252 community roads to be completed by October this year,” Dr. Holness further stated.
