Primary, Secondary, and tertiary school students copped prizes at the 2023 Scientific Research Council (SRC) Essay Oratory, Poster, and Preforming Arts competition (EOPP) awards ceremony held recently at the at the Stella Maris Church Hall in Kingston. This year’s competition was held under the theme “Youth Have the Power” and according to the Science & Technology Education Unit Coordinator, Kavelle Hylton, the competition is conceptualized to support the SRC’s effort to promote science, technology, and innovation among young people

Seventeen-year-old Chris-Ann Witter, was named Female Youth Ambassador for the Portland 4-H Club at the Portland Parish Achievement Day Expo 2023, held recently at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE).  Chris-Ann, who is currently a student at Port Antonio High School, says she is immensely grateful for this achievement given the criteria she had to fulfill.

Over 200 girls from 18 high schools island wide, many of whom had never experienced coding before, participated in Flow Jamaica’s 2023 Girls in ICT Day Expo on April 27.  Held under the theme, “Digital skills for life”, the expo allowed the young women to network with female Information, communication Technology (ICT) industry professionals.

The Universal Service Fund (USF) recently launched its first Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Club for high schools at Central High School in Clarendon. The club aims to promote digital literacy and help bridge the digital divide among Jamaica’s youth.

Jamaica’s Promise | April 25, 2023
Eighteen-year-old Teana Fuller, a former ward of the state and lower sixth form student at St. Hugh’s High School, was earlier this year named the top girl for the Southeast Region of the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) 11th annual Educational Achievement Awards Ceremony.  She was awarded for her outstanding performance in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.

Jamaica’s Promise | April 18, 2023
St. Elizabeth based, Maggotty High School sent a team of 19 students - 8 boys and 11 girls to the 2023 staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Championships from March 28 to April 1. The team gave the school its best placing to date, finishing 9th with a total of 46 points.  Among the strong performances delivered, the top two were delivered by Jayden Brown and Yoshane Bowen who both bagged gold medals in their 800m races at the championships.
