And it’s not showing any signs of slowing down soon; creating a new challenge; the need for more space. This as the industry is diversifying the type of services being offered locally and more investors are looking to Jamaica as a viable outsourcing option.

The strategy of Divestment has been an important part in the Government’s plan of boosting the efficiency of some state entities. One of the most recent examples was the move to divest the Norman Manley International Airport. Jamaica is positioning itself as the ideal outsourcing destination in the Caribbean. With more businesses outsourcing their operations abroad, more entrepreneurs are capitalizing on this lucrative opportunity. Over 36,000 Jamaicans are currently employed in the business process outsourcing sector, working in various capacities. Customer service, tech support, software engineering, accounting and many others. With that said, the country has embarked on a 5-year project dubbed the Global Services Sector (GSS) Project geared at upskilling the labour force in the BPO sector. It is being funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
