The girls at the South Camp Juvenile Correctional and Remand Centre in St. Andrew, are set to benefit from expanded training opportunities, with plans underway for the construction of a multi-purpose facility at the centre by the end of December. Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, Rudyard Spencer says the building will facilitate additional educational, vocational and recreational activities for the wards at the institution.

Residents of St. Elizabeth have joined others in neighbouring parishes Manchester and Clarendon in benefitting from the Government’s Water Shop Initiative. The project involves the installation of water tanks in communities with severe water challenges. The tanks are then regularly serviced by water trucks and maintained by the municipal corporations in partnership with residents. Two new facilities were commissioned in Top Hill and Retirement District in Malvern.

In 2004, it became a requirement for all civil aviation airports to become certified. Also in 2004, the Norman Manley International Airport began its journey of achieving the Aerodrome Operator Certificate. Fifteen years later, the certification has been achieved. The certificate validates that the airport is operating at a standard recognized and held by the international Civil Aviation Organisation ICAO, the international body that governs the development of civil aviation worldwide. Achieving the certification is considered a big win for the country’s efforts aviation industry but how did we get here after 15 years? A Registered Nurse, Midwife, Dairy farmer, and Santa Claus are just a few of the titles Mrs. Opal Maureen Edwards has picked up over the years. Mrs Edwards has over 40 years experience working in Jamaica’s health and education sectors. Trained at the Victoria Hospital in the United Kingdom in 1970 and at the University College Hospital of the West Indies Mona in 1974, she would receive further training in 1978 as a Vocational Instructor at the Vocational Training Development Institute (VDTI).

Since his official entry on to the theatre scene in 1994, Glenroy 'Titus' Campbell has been bringing a bellyful of laughs to performing arts patrons at home and abroad. After getting his start in high school, he started to appear in productions like the pantomime River Mumma and the Golden Table in the late 1980’s. Now after over 38 years of outstanding contribution to Jamaican theatre, television and film, Glenroy Campbell will be formally inducted into the Order of Distinction.
