GOJ Invests in Chess and other Sports

On March 07, 2023, Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr Nigel Clarke during his 2023/24 opening National Budget Debate presentation announced the government’s intention to support and implement a program to produce a Jamaican chess Grandmaster within the next ten years. This audacious 40-million-dollar journey officially began on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, when the Jamaican government, through the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) handed over the allocation to the Jamaica Chess Federation, to support the local growth of the sport.
