Many people call chess a “mental martial art.” Because it develops emotional resilience, improves problem-solving abilities, and sharpens critical thinking. Speaking at a Meet & Greet event at the Medallion Hall Hotel in Kingston recently Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, while narrating a 2013 exchange with Jamaican-American Chess Grandmaster Maurice Ashley, reiterated the government’s support for the popularization of the game through the Jamaica Chess Federation’s “Grandmaster in 10” campaign. The initiative got under way last year with an initial investment of $40 million from the Government.
