The Ministry of Education and Youth has launched a year-long campaign geared at ending violence in schools.

Persons in the disabled community will be the primary focus of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) for this year’s commemoration of Fire and Life Safety Awareness week, which starts on October 23, will be held under the theme: Preserving the nation through life safety and fire prevention.

Postmaster General at the Post and Telecommunications Department, Lincoln Allen, says several post offices across the island are to be renovated as part of efforts to modernize Jamaica’s postal service.

The Forestry Department is reporting that over 11,000 trees were planted across the island earlier this month in observance of National Tree Planting Day (NTPD). The total includes approximately 300 seedlings planted by Jamaica Energy Partners on just over one hectare of land in the Blue Mountain 2 Forest Reserve in St. Thomas.

Jamaicans are being encouraged to visit and experience the Kingston Creative District, Downtown, as the city continues to undergo a major transformation. The area, which is designed to have the shape of a key, is being transformed into creative spaces that showcase Jamaican food, craft, artwork, music and dance. This to attract locals and visitors and provide income-earning opportunities.

Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton is urging Jamaicans to find safe spaces to manage their mental health challenges. His call came during the launch of the Ministry’s #DoYourShare Campaign on Monday.

The National Neighbourhood Watch is being rebranded, to revamp its operations and image in communities across the island.

Inmates of the South Camp Juvenile Remand and Correctional Centre are set to benefit from a course in coding and robotics this month. The course is being facilitated by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), in collaboration with local education firm, STEAMHouse Network.
