The Full Story

The 45th Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament, was officially launched by the Custos of Portland, Roy Thompson, during a ceremony at the Old Port Antonio Marina on Monday, October 6.
The tournament, which will continue until Saturday, October 11, also includes the 24th Port Antonio Canoe Tournament, to be held on Wednesday, October 8, which will also be a rest day for big boat fishing.
A total of 31 yachts with 180 anglers are participating in the competition. In declaring the tournament open, Custos Thompson, who deputised for the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most. Hon. Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, welcomed the anglers to Port Antonio, and exhorted them to enjoy all the attractions the town had to offer, as they compete for the various prizes.
In wishing them success, he assured the competitors that they could always rely on the people of Port Antonio, for the hospitality with which they greet visitors.
Forty canoes are expected to participate in the event, which will involve boats from Portland, St. Mary, St. Thomas, and St. James.
Unlike the yacht-fishing component of the International Marlin Tournament, the canoe tournament will be a one day event with an awards presentation function scheduled to conclude day’s activities. The presentations will culminate with a grand prize giving function on Friday, October 10.
