PM Regrets Passing of Astil Sangster – Former MP & Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture

Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding has expressed regret at the passing, on Friday (May 29), of Astil Sangster, former Member of Parliament for North Eastern Westmoreland and former Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture.
Mr. Sangster served as MP from 1980 to 1989 and as Parliamentary Secretary during that period. He was 75 years old. Mr. Golding noted that Mr. Sangster, an agriculturalist and businessman had made a significant contribution to the growth and development of the sugar industry. He served as Vice Chairman of the Jamaica Cane Farmers Association and Vice President of Caribbean Cane Farmers Association. Mr. Astil Sangster, a member of the Sangster family of politicians was one of three relatives elected both in 1980 and 1983. The others were Kingsley Sangster for South-east St. Catherine and Derrick Sangster for South-west St. Elizabeth. Another member of the family, Sir Donald Sangster, was a former Prime Minister. The Prime Minister has conveyed sympathies on behalf of the Government to Mr. Sangster’s family and friends.
