Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, has praised Paralympian, Tanto Campbell, for winning the bronze medal in the men’s discus at the 13th Paralympics in Beijing, China. Mr. Golding said his achievement was made even more outstanding, by the fact that Campbell not only had to contend with physical challenges, but that his determination to medal, expanded even further, after two foiled attempts.
Mr. Golding said Campbell’s accomplishment at the ‘Bird Nest’, so soon after the exceptional display of talent by the Jamaican Olympic team, will only serve to inspire other members of the Paralympics team as they go into competition. In the discus class F56 event, twenty-two year old Tanto Campbell, threw a personal best 39.31 metres to secure the bronze medal.
Other athletes scheduled to compete at the 13th Paralympics include Alphanso Cunningham, defending champion of the discus class F57 event, who will also compete in the men’s javelin class F53 and F54 combined. Vinette Green and Sylvia Grant will compete in the women’s class F54 discus event and the javelin class F57 and F58 combined.
