The Full Story

Prime Minister Bruce Golding today (June 12) continued government’s campaign to encourage Jamaicans to ‘eat what we grow.and grow what we eat’ when he paid a short visit to the St. Andrew Technical High School where he planted an ackee tree on the school grounds.
As a part of the “effort to get back to the soil,” Mr. Golding reminded students who gathered on the lawns that Jamaica imports far too much food items. He encouraged the students to take full advantage of their community gardens and utilize the skills provided by the school’s 4-H club and Agricultural society in order to be more self-sufficient.
After the planting, The Prime Minister took a brief tour of the school grounds at which time he was presented with a basket of ground provisions (callaloo, cauliflower and peppers) prepared by the school’s 4-H Club.
