The Full Story
Prime Minister the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller is calling for Jamaicans at all levels of society to see the protection and education of the nation’s children as the responsibility of all.
The Prime Minister’s appeal came as she addressed the official opening and naming of the new Hanover Co-operative Credit Union (HCCU) building in Lucea, Hanover on Thursday April 23.
“The education of our children must be a community effort and a national mission that involves all of us at every level. We have to pay attention to our children and youth to save them from crime, violence and abuse that is rampant in our society. Our children are our future,” Mrs. Simpson Miller said.
The Prime Minister’s appeal came in the wake of acts of violence against children in recent times.
Her plea was echoed by Custos of Hanover, Hon. David Stair who said it was difficult to conceive that human beings were responsible for such “dastardly acts of violence” against children.
Meanwhile, in recognising the role of the Hanover Co-operative Credit Union (HCCU) in providing scholarships and educational grants to members and their children, the Prime Minister commended HCCU for maintaining its connections with the community and its people over its 40 years of existence.
Hanover Co-operative Credit Union as part of its anniversary celebration officially opened and named its new building in honour of founder, the late Enid Gonsalves.
