The Full Story

Over 21,000 tickets have been distributed to persons to attend the Family Fun Day and Concert with Jamaica’s World Championship athletes, scheduled for Sunday (October 4) at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday (October 2) in the VIP lounge at the Norman Manley International Airport, Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Olivia Grange, said that tickets, which are free of cost, were distributed to various outlets in western Jamaica and Kingston. Patrons must have tickets to enter the stadium.
Miss Grange, accompanied by representatives from her Ministry and the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA), met several athletes on the jet bridge who had returned home for the celebrations, earlier in the afternoon.
“I am being asked to print more tickets, well, I have gone ahead and arranged to print more tickets, so we are really going to have wall to wall people,” she said.
The Minister said that she was not surprised at the demand for tickets, since the event was a significant one.
“What we have to celebrate is so significant in our national development, that nobody wants to miss out on it,” she stated.
The event, which will take place from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. with gates opening at 12 Noon, is part of a series of events dubbed, “the Berlin Salute – A tribute to our Athletes,” to celebrate their achievements at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin.
Other activities include a “Golden Reception” at Jamaica House on Friday, October 2, and a Thanksgiving Church Service at the Portmore Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Port Henderson Road on Saturday, October 3.
