The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is encouraging participation in its upcoming webinar, focusing on the Electricity Disaster Fund (EDF), in the wake of concerns in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, which impacted the island on July 3.
Scheduled for November 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the session aims to educate consumers, stakeholders in the power sector and the wider public about the facility.
Public Education Specialist at the OUR, Elizabeth Bennett Marsh, told JIS News that the webinar is crucial, particularly as the EDF has been in existence since 2004 but remains largely unknown to many.
“This is a very important issue, and we always say that an informed consumer is a very, very powerful one, and we want consumers to be informed. We want consumers to be aware of all the facts,” she said.
Interested individuals can access the information session from the OUR’s social media platforms, namely Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. Participants will gain insights into the purpose and operations of the Fund, how it benefits stakeholders and the OUR’s role in monitoring it.
Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the OUR and pose questions via the platforms.
For those unable to attend the live session, the webinar will be available for later viewing on the OUR’s YouTube channel, the OUR Jamaica Hub.
Additional information about the EDF and the webinar can be accessed on the OUR’s website at our.org.jm.
