No Cause for Alarm When Medical Personnel Wear Protective Gear to Care for Patients
May 14, 2009The Full Story
The Ministry of Health is assuring members of the public that there is no cause for alarm when healthcare workers wear protective gear to care for patients who present with flu-like symptoms.
Medical personnel are advised to wear protective gear as a routine precautionary measure. This does not necessarily mean that the patient has been infected with the Influenza A (H1N1) virus, formerly called Swine Flu, or any other communicable disease.
There is still no evidence of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus in Jamaica, however, in light of the rapid spread in other parts of the world, the Ministry is urging continued vigilance to protect against any possible spread.
The public can call the Ministry of Health’s toll free line at 1-888-663-5683 to get information on the Influenza A (H1N1) virus.
