NHT Employer Connect to Help Portmore Businesses Navigate Compliance

The National Housing Trust (NHT) will bring key business support and statutory compliance services directly to employers and entrepreneurs in Portmore at its Employer Connect Expo on Friday (September 25).

The event, which will be held at Sunshine Mall, is designed to help businesses better understand their obligations as employers while connecting them with agencies that provide registration, financing and compliance support.

Assistant General Manager with responsibility for Compliance in the NHT’s Contribution Management Department, Dameon McNally, said the initiative forms part of the organisation’s strategy to engage more employers as business activity continues to expand.

“We want to partner with these new businesses, because if it is that you are operating and you have employees, we want to engage them, because obviously if it is that you have employees, then there’s a requirement that says that you make deductions and submit your returns,” he told JIS News.

Mr. McNally said the NHT has identified Portmore as one of the country’s fastest-growing commercial districts, making it an ideal location for outreach.

He added that attendees will be able to receive guidance on creating accounts with Tax Administration Jamaica, filing monthly returns and understanding when statutory deductions become due.

The expo will also feature participation from organisations such as the Development Bank of Jamaica, enabling business owners to access information on financing opportunities alongside compliance guidance.

While Employer Connect is geared primarily towards employers and entrepreneurs, Mr. McNally said members of the public with questions about NHT loans, refunds or contributions are also encouraged to attend.

“We’ll be there to answer your questions. Even though the focus is on our employers and the business community, anyone that has any questions for the National Housing Trust can come on out on the day,” he said.
