The Office of the Prime Minister has taken a further step to involve a wider base of public participation in the 2011 National Civil Honours and Awards programme by placing the nomination forms on its website at www.opm.gov.jm.

This is the first time that the form is available via the Internet. The printed forms will still be available at the usual government offices and overseas missions.

The decision to place the forms online is a part of bringing more Jamaicans at home and in the Diaspora into an appreciation of the awards programme and its goals and to also allow the nomination forms to be more widely available.

Admission into the Societies of Honour or receiving a medal under the programme is the premier recognition of the government of Jamaica. The awards include the Order of Distinction and the Order of Jamaica. It also includes medals for gallantry, meritorious public service or long and faithful public service.

The form is formatted so that all fields, except the signature field, can be completed online before downloading for signing and printing.

The deadline for this year’s nominations for awards is March 31, 2011.
