The Full Story

Students and teachers of the Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Montego Bay Infant schools in St. James can now access online resources to supplement in-class learning, using free high-speed Internet.

This has been provided by the Universal Service Fund (USF), following the commissioning of the Jarrett Park Community Wi-Fi facility last Saturday (September 2).

Principal of Corinaldi Avenue Primary, Deon Stern Anglin, was present at the launch ceremony, which was held at the Jarrett Park Sports Complex.

Mrs. Stern Anglin expressed gratitude for the newly installed Internet connection point.

“We are grateful. Thank you, Dr. Dawes and your team… for all the work you have put into this programme. We are the home of champions, and we will be using the Wi-Fi. You will be proud,” she said.

The successful installation of the facility resulted from the collaborative efforts of the USF and the community’s local government representatives.

For his part, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the USF, Dr. Daniel Dawes, said the organisation is committed to addressing the existing digital divide, to ensure that no one is left behind.

The CEO noted that more than 250 sites have been established across the island since 2021.

Residents and businesses in Jarrett Park are also benefiting from the free connection.

The USF’s Community Wi-Fi initiative aims to bridge the country’s digital divide and transform lives.

The USF is an agency under the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport.

It is mandated to ensure access to information and communications technology tools to facilitate development.
