Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Pearnel Charles has declared that Monday, December 27, 2010 will be observed as a public holiday.
Speaking in an interview with JIS News today (December 24), the Minister said he made the decision in keeping with the powers conferred on him as the Minister of Labour, under the Holidays (Public General) Act.
There has been some uncertainty among Jamaicans about the holiday, as Boxing Day (December 26) is a Sunday on the calendar.
“The 27th day of December 2010 is hereby appointed to be observed as a public general holiday throughout the island of Jamaica,” the Minister declared.
Mr. Charles said he consulted the Prime Minister and the Solicitor General on the matter.
He also informed that Monday, December 27, 2010 will carry with it all the entitlements of any other holiday.
