Major Infrastructure Works Continue in New Fiscal Year

The Government will continue to build out Jamaica’s infrastructure in the upcoming fiscal year.

To this end, a total of $6.3 billion has been allocated to complete the construction of the Harbour View to Port Antonio section of the Southern Coastal Highway Project and commence works on Phase three of the local roadwork construction packages.

Also, $10.2 billion has been provided for the Montego Bay Perimeter Road to complete land acquisition activities and design for the 11-kilometre four-lane carriageway along the Long Hill Bypass corridor, and the continuation of construction works on the 15 kilometre four-lane carriageway from Ironshore to Bogue.

Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, provided the details as he opened the 2024/25 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on March 12.

Meanwhile, the Government is continuing to support the security forces with major investments in security infrastructure designed to improve outcomes.

In the upcoming fiscal year, Dr. Clarke informed that the Government is allocating $882 million to commence construction works on the Westmoreland Police Divisional Headquarters and $990 million to commence construction of the St. Catherine North Police Divisional Headquarters.

Some $1 billion has also been allocated to complete the acquisition of four new marine patrol vessels and $645 million to support ongoing capacity-building activities to improve the investigative capacity of the police.
