The Full Story

The Government has allocated $120 million to complete the rehabilitation of Fort Rocky in Kingston and the Jam World complex in St. Catherine for use as fully functional 24-hour entertainment zones.

Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, made the announcement as he opened the 2024/25 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (March 12).

He noted that Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange, is a strong advocate of the need to establish spaces where musicians can earn their livelihoods while affording Jamaicans the opportunity to enjoy Reggae music in locations designated to facilitate this.

“This Government of Prime Minister [the Most Hon. Andrew] Holness, is a Government that listens. With this Government, reggae music will play in Kingston [and other designated locations] 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Dr. Clarke stated.

He added that the Government was leveraging economic stability in the people’s benefit.

“Minister Grange also wants you to know that we are honouring the commitment to support the development of Jamaican cricket over the medium term with an allocation of $100 million across three years, starting with $40 million this year,” Dr. Clarke further indicated.
