The Full Story

State Minister for Industry, Investment and Commerce, and Member of Parliament for West Central St. James, Hon. Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams, says lands have been identified for the provision of low income housing in the constituency.

The housing solutions will be located in Retirement, St. James, where there are also plans for an agro-park and a recycling plant that should lead to a sustainable community, with jobs and supplies of home-grown food.

Addressing the 2013/2014 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 25, Mrs. Ffolkes Abrahams said that she is working with a housing solution company and the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ), and plans are advanced for the delivery of a model home.

In addition, she informed that 61 persons from Retirement 1, Pitfour 3 and Meadowsvale in St. James, received official title documents for their lots from HAJ under the Government’s Operation PRIDE programme.  Thirty-three titles were also issued at Catherine Hall to the residents of Retirement Phase Two.

Mrs. Ffolkes Abrahams noted that many of the residents had been waiting for up to 18 years, “but in the Year of Jubilee, land ownership has been delivered.”
