The Full Story

The Ministry of National Security will kick off its Liv Gud School Invasion on Friday (September 20) at the Denham Town High School in downtown Kingston.

The initiative, which will see representatives from the Ministry and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) interacting with the students, is part of the Liv Gud Anti-Violence campaign designed to curb violence and promote positive behaviour across Jamaica, particularly among the youth.

Head of the Corporate Services Division, Elaine Oxamendi Vicet, told JIS News that the school invasion is designed to engage students in direct conversations about issues affecting their schools and communities.

“We go along with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Community Safety Branch to the school just to have a conversation with the children in terms of how we really resolve an issue and not have to resort to violence, and explain why bullyism is unacceptable behaviour,” she noted.

The school invasion sessions started in 2022 with a focus on the early-childhood sector and it has now been expanded to include primary and secondary schools.

Mrs. Vicet noted that the decision to begin at Denham Town High was based on research and studies conducted on institutions included in the Ministry’s 34 Schools Interministerial Strategy. Denham Town High, she indicated, is currently facing a challenge with indiscipline and extortion.

The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be a jam-packed hour involving pep talks, prizes and giveaways.

“The children should look out for key personalities [from the Ministry], celebrities and fun. The giveaways will help to reinforce the message that we want to have as keepsake tools to remind you how to change a behaviour that will not augur well for you and your community,” she noted.

The invasion sessions will involve the Minister, State Minister, case managers and other officials from the Ministry, and members of the Community Safety and Security Branch of the JCF.
