Juici Patties yesterday (Aug. 23) broke ground for the construction of a muli-million dollar family park and conference centre, at the company’s 5.3-hectare (8 acre) corporate headquarters at Lot 1 Clarendon Park in May Pen.
Chief Executive Officer of Juici Patties, Jukie Chin, explained that the facility, which should be completed by 2008, would provide a safe and secure environment where families, business entities, sporting bodies, religious organisations and other civil groups could come together for educational and recreational purposes.
The project, he said, would be undertaken in three phases, with phase one to entail the establishment of the general park by December. The park, he said, “will offer something for everyone, whether it is a small child or an adult” and facilities will include a special play area for kids, a waterfall with a jogging trail running through it, a state-of-the-art stage, which will have a lounge area built underneath for performers, a restaurant with an upstairs VIP lounge area, bathrooms and changing rooms.
“We will also have a top-of-the line audio-visual control tower, fully powered and equipped to deal with whatsoever event that we have to host. There will be adequate green space and paved areas, which will include a bridge over a pond of ornamental fish,” Mr. Chin indicated.
Meanwhile, the conference centre, which will be built under phase two of the project, will have a dimension of 20,000 square feet. “This facility will have a solid wooden-type floor so that it can accommodate various sporting activities such as table tennis, badminton, basketball and netball. on the top floor we will have a least 20 residential rooms for persons, who need to stay on site for activities such as conventions or business meetings,” he informed.
Mr. Chin stated that the project was being undertaken in keeping with the company’s motto: “One Jamaica. One Family”.
“We believe that at the end of our time, we shall be judged not by what we have but by what we would have done during the course of our lifetime, and this is one way we have of trying to give back to our parish and country,” he said.
Tourism, Entertainment and Culture Minister, Aloun Ndombet Assamba in her remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony, commended Juici Patties for embarking on the project, noting that, “the family-friendly facility. will increase our stock of entertainment venues, while incorporating options for recreation”.
She noted that the Ministry as well as the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) would be happy to offer any assistance with the project.
