Job creation… a focus of cabinet retreat
January 24, 2011The Full Story
Cabinet will this weekend be focusing its attention on stimulating growth and creating jobs through investment and expansion for 2011. The one day retreat gets underway on January 22.
In his New Year’s message, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said that to this end, consultation on policy direction had already started with the private sector and trade unions. He said growth and expansion must be driven by the private sector but the Government has an important enabling role to play. ‘This effort will benefit from the consultative machinery of the Partnership for Transformation which brings together the leadership of the private sector, trade unions and government’. This, Mr. Golding said would inform the policies on which the new budget will be constructed and presented in April.
Mr. Golding noted that the economy was already benefitting from the lowest interest rates in 30 years and that the agriculture and tourism sectors recorded growth. ‘The signs are encouraging with the country soon to see the back of the recession,’ Mr. Golding said.
