JIS Hosts Media Forum on 2009/10 Budget on Thursday

May 6, 2009

The Full Story

The Jamaica Information Service (JIS) will be staging a ‘Special JIS Media Forum’ Thursday (May 7) at the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ), on South in Odeon Avenue, Half Way Tree, St. Andrew.
The forum will focus on critical areas and issues coming out of the just concluded Budget Debate, with a panel consisting of senior Ministers of Government and leading journalists in the mainstream media.
Highlighting the relevance of such an initiative, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the JIS, Mrs. Donna-Marie Rowe, explained that the forum is designed “to allow key Ministers the opportunity to expand on issues raised during the Budget Debate”.
“I think a number of issues touched everyone in the country at some serious levels and it is necessary to have a forum like this which will allow hard questions to be answered, questions that the average Jamaican might want to ask, but is not given an opportunity to ask,” the CEO noted.
She added that through the participation of mainstream journalists, these areas will be highlighted and expanded on for the benefit of the public.
Mrs. Rowe said that “the forum is one of several initiatives to promote the Government’s policies and programmes.” The ‘Special JIS Media Forum’ will be aired on PBCJ on Thursday (May 7) at 9 p.m. and streamed on the JIS website at www.jis.gov.jm.
