KINGSTON — The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will be staging several major events to commemorate National Heritage Week.
The week starts on Sunday, October 9, with the National Thanksgiving Church Service at the Church of God in Jamaica, Barbara Avenue, Edgewater, Portmore, St. Catherine at 9 a.m.
National Heroes Day, Monday, October 17 will be highlighted by the National Honours and Awards Ceremony at King’s House at 9 a.m. Approximately 100 Jamaicans will be conferred with National Honours and awards by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, for outstanding and meaningful contributions to various aspects of national life.
The recipients include Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Jamaica, Ambassador Marco Mazzochi Alemanni who will be conferred with an honourary Order of Distinction (Commander Class), in recognition of his contribution to Jamaica’s economic and social development.
National Heritage Week will culminate with the annual salute to our National Heroes, at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, at the National Heroes Circle.
Their Governor-General and Lady Allen, the Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding; the Leader of the Opposition, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, other government officials and dignitaries are expected to participate in the events.
