The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) will be opening its 11th Jamaica Business Information Centre (JAMBIC) in Ocho Rios, St. Ann on Thursday (July 16), as part of its thrust to provide technical support for existing and potential business operators.
The facility will be located at the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce, and will provide personalised business development consultation, including business plan development and writing; marketing; access to industry research and other information; and administrative assistance and loan funding through JN Small Business Loans Limited.
Speaking with JIS News, Executive Director of the JBDC, Harold Davis, explained that the establishment of these centres across the island allows persons to gain access to JBDC’s suite of business development services, without leaving their parish.
“We are bringing our services to persons in St. Ann, who are interested in starting or growing their business. They can visit the centre and get a full suite of JBDC services right there in Ocho Rios, rather than having to go to Montego Bay or Kingston,” the Executive Director pointed out.
“These centres have been able to offer training in specific areas, ranging from business plan development to market access to utilisation of technology to product development,” Mr. Davis noted.
He added that these centres have not only increased access to JBDC’s range of services, but have also allowed for its clientele to increase significantly.
“The business information centres have contributed significantly to the growth and development of small business operations, as the information and the knowledge level have increased and the way in which persons are doing business have changed and improved,” the Executive Director said.
Other JAMBIC centres are located in Hanover, Westmoreland, St. James, St. Catherine, Manchester, Portland, Kingston and St. Andrew.
