The Full Story

Cabinet, at its meeting this week, approved a proposal for Jamaica to host the first preparatory meeting for the second Inter-American ministers’ and high level authorities’ forum on sustainable development.
The event is slated for the Rose Hall Resort, Montego Bay, from June 21 to 25.
Speaking at Wednesday’s (June 16) post-Cabinet media briefing at Jamaica House, Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, informed that the meeting will afford member states the opportunity to review both the preliminary draft agenda and declaration for the ministers’ and high level authorities’ forum.
“The discussions will also be focused on the theme proposed by the host country towards the vision to achieve an integrated approach in the risk management as well as to address challenges posed by climate change in the framework of sustainable development,” he outlined.
He said that the Organization of American States (OAS) will meet all attendant costs for the meeting as well as logistical arrangements, while Jamaica is only required to identify officials with responsibility for sustainable development to participate in the event.
