GOJ SPARKs Road Improvements

The Government of Jamaica (GOJ) has committed $40 billion to improving the quality of more than 2,000 roads across the island. The road transportation network will be improved through the Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) programme. SPARK will focus on main roads, secondary roads and community roads to be repaired within a two-year span.
Constituency Road Repairs
The funds allocated for the SPARK programme will be shared equally among constituencies; with additional support being given to areas with roads that are most in need of repairs, based on the conditions and mileage.
Community Consultation
The GOJ, through Members of Parliament and Councillors, will have consultations with citizens to offer an opportunity for the general public to identify roads in need of repair This consultation will be significant in the prioritisation of road repair projects.
Infrastructural Improvement
The SPARK programme will see improvements to general infrastructure connected to the roadways, including:
• Pavement resurfacing
• Intersection improvement at strategic locations
• Sidewalk rehabilitation in parish capitals and towns
• Retaining wall construction
• Drainage improvement
• Waterline improvement
• Placement of fibre optic ducts
