The Full Story

The Lighthouse Holiness Church in Miramar, Florida has donated more than two tons of supplies to families and health institutions across the island. The supplies, which included clothing, beds, wheelchairs and walkers, non-perishable foods and educational items, were gathered through the church’s annual ‘Have A Heart Ministry’.
Members of the church, along with Jamaican-born Pastor Letoria Derizzio, recently travelled to Jamaica, where they received assistance from the Red Cross, Salvation Army and local churches and schools in distributing the items.
Needy families as well as health institutions in Kingston, Portland, St. Thomas, St. Ann, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth, benefited from the assistance. Feeding programmes were carried out in nursing homes.
Started eight years ago in Westmoreland, the Have A Heart Mission provides assistance to persons in need. Over the years, the programme has grown to assist hundreds of families across the island.
Pastor Derizzio said that the beneficiaries were grateful for the help, adding that a pocket bible was placed in every package distributed.
The Pastor noted that the team would immediately begin its collection drive for next year, and expressed gratitude to the congregation of over 100 members for donating the items. She said that the effectiveness of the programme was a testament to the congregation’s commitment.
Pastor Derizzio also expressed gratitude for the support organizations – Air Jamaica, Caribbean Ocean Shipping Company, local manufacturers and distributors, corporations, church groups, public offices including the Jamaica Consulate in Miami and the Ministry of Finance in Jamaica.
