Prime Minister, Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, has stressed that the government is serious about investment, both local and foreign, as a critical part of the economic development strategy.
She told the more than 400 investors, who attended the just concluded Jamaica Investment Forum that Jamaica is ripe for business, and the government is more than ready to accommodate their interests.
"I am ready, we are ready, and I hope that you are ready, and I look forward to receiving a number of you returning to invest in this beautiful island of ours… I did meet with some persons indicating some mega investments into the country," she stated.
The Prime Minister was addressing a ‘Jamaica Night’ reception held on Thursday (March 1) on the lawns of the Rose Hall Great House for delegates, who attended the investment conference. The reception was a celebration of Jamaica's culture and fine cuisine.
Mrs. Simpson Miller extended warm appreciation to all the investors for making it to Jamaica.
"I want…to say to all the investors and others who attended, thank you so much for making it Jamaica. I want to thank you and we look forward for a long and prosperous and productive relationship between us and you investors, who will be investing in Jamaica,” she stated.
She also lauded the Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Anthony Hylton, as well as the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) team led by President, Sancia Bennett-Templer, “for the tremendous efforts they have all extended into making the forum the great success it has been”.
“I was told by a number of investors that I met with today, how much they admired the kind of organisation that was put in place for the forum. Mrs. Templer, thank you very much and congratulations,” the Prime Minister said.
The Jamaica Investment Forum was held from March 1 to 2 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Rose Hall.
